Yachatz

Toldot Yaakov Yosef, Bereshit 1

"שמעתי ממורי זלה״ה שאם ידע האדם שהקב״ה מסתתר שם אין זה הסתרה..."
"I heard from my teacher, of blessed memory, that if a person knows that the Holy One, blessed be He, is hidden there, then it is not a concealment..."

Yachatz is a powerful moment of both brokenness and hope. We break the middle matzah, symbolizing the fractured world we live in, but then we hide the larger piece to remind us that redemption is hidden, not lost. It’s a call to search for Hashem’s presence, to long for the geulah, and to realize that even in the brokenness, there’s something whole waiting to be revealed.
