The Baal Shem Tov (Tzava’at HaRivash 44) teaches:
"כל דבר בעולם יש בו ניצוץ אלוקי המחיה אותו, וכשמשתמשים בו לעבודת ה' מגלים את הניצוץ שבו ומעלים אותו."
“Everything in the world contains a divine spark that gives it life. When it is used for serving Hashem, the spark is revealed and elevated.”
Kiddush is our declaration that the physical world is meant to be elevated. The Baal Shem Tov teaches that everything contains a divine spark, and when we use the physical for Hashem’s service, we reveal it. That’s why we start the Seder with wine—because Pesach is about תִּיקּוּן הַגּוּף (Zohar), transforming the material into the spiritual.
