Urchatz

Shem MiShmuel (Sochatchover Rebbe) - Pesach 5672

"הטהרה של 'ורחץ' היא הכנה ליציאה מן הגלות הפנימי."
"The purification of 'Urchatz' is a preparation for leaving one's internal exile."

Urchatz isn’t just about washing—it’s about preparing. The Sfas Emes teaches that cleansing our hands represents surrendering our will, while the Shem Mishmuel explains that it’s a preparation for redemption. Our hands are how we interact with the world, and before we step into freedom, we pause to ask: Are my actions aligned with where I want to go? The Zohar and Arizal reveal that clean hands are vessels for divine blessing, and as David HaMelech says, “נְקִי כַפַּיִם וּבַר לֵבָב”—pure hands lead to a pure heart. Urchatz is a reset, a chance to let go of the past and step into a new beginning.
